A tiny hydro with big impact

In Bainbridge, Wensleydale, William toured the River Bain Hydro, a community‑owned station that powers about 30 homes and sells surplus energy to the National Grid. The project is forecast to save more than 3,000 tons of CO2 over a 40‑year life, and he met locals who maintain the site and discussed how similar schemes might be copied elsewhere.

Part of a wider royal focus on climate

His visit followed King Charles and Queen Camilla’s recent four‑day U.S. state visit. William, founder of the Earthshot Prize in 2020, continues to champion environmental solutions; the prize awards $1.4 million per category, has recognised some 75 finalists who secured over $500 million, and will be held in Mumbai in November 2026.
