A heartbreaking incident has unfolded off the western coast of the Canary Island of Tenerife. In the vicinity of Los Gigantes, a sudden surge of enormous waves swept four individuals out to sea, resulting in their tragic deaths. One additional person remains missing, deepening the sorrow of this calamity.
The alarming event occurred shortly after 4 PM at one of the popular natural pools in Los Gigantes, located within the municipality of Santiago del Teide. At that moment, numerous visitors were either enjoying the rocky landscape or swimming when a massive wave unexpectedly crashed onto the shore, pulling many into the turbulent waters.
Emergency services of the Canary Islands reported that several individuals were carried away by the force of the waves. Among those affected were reportedly foreign tourists, as noted by the local publication Diario de Avisos. A rescue helicopter managed to recover one person alive, while another was retrieved but sadly pronounced dead.
Initially, authorities confirmed that two men and one woman had died – with the man being 35 years old and the woman 55. Tragically, a fourth woman was later confirmed deceased after being resuscitated and flown to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. At present, it is unclear if any of the victims were German nationals.
