Marius has been held since early February after an arrest on alleged assault, violating a restraining order and threatening someone with a knife days before a high-profile trial. He faced dozens of charges in the proceedings; on June 15 he was sentenced to four years after being found guilty of multiple offenses, including two counts of rape, and given a two-year restraining order. He was first arrested in August 2024 and later faced expanded charges in 2025.
The Royal House’s communications head said the Crown Prince couple wish to assist Marius. He is not a working royal and is not in the line of succession. The updates come as Crown Princess Mette-Marit was discharged from hospital following a lung transplant and publicly thanked donors, her care team and supporters.
