Rescue efforts for the missing person continued late into the evening, but they yielded no results. Participating in the search were maritime rescue teams, a helicopter, and units from the fire department, emergency services, and police.
Prior to the incident, there were warnings issued by authorities regarding dangerous waves. Media reports indicated that some individuals were able to save themselves from the water. State broadcaster RTVE reminded the public that the Canary Islands government had cautioned against perilous waves just the previous Sunday. These natural pools, which are often touted as hidden gems for vacationers, can turn lethal in rough seas, with powerful waves dragging people into the open ocean and strong currents making escape nearly impossible.
Just a few days before this tragedy, Tenerife had witnessed similar dramatic scenes, where numerous people were also swept into the sea, resulting in three deaths and 15 injuries. The island now faces another heart-wrenching fatal incident.
