Hospitalized again

On Aug. 17 the Royal House announced the king was admitted after cortisone given for hemolytic anemia caused fluid accumulation that required inpatient care. He will be on sick leave for two weeks while Crown Prince Haakon serves as regent, and the palace said more details on the official program will follow.

A difficult year for the monarch

Earlier this year the king was hospitalized in February while on holiday in Tenerife for infection and dehydration; doctors later described a skin infection and he was discharged on Feb. 26. His recent medical history also includes a leg operation in 2022, COVID in 2022 and 2023, and pacemaker surgery in 2024.
